Fund Raising For New Courts Underway
Fund raising is underway for the new courts on land purchased for this purpose next to the clubhouse. A Fund Raising committee has been formed and money is already coming in. The committee, comprising Vince Pycroft, Nikki Smethurst, Ron Hanlon, Neil Bryars, Rob Miller and Richard Pearce, under the chairmanship of David Hide, has set itself the target of raising £40,000 in five years.
The campaign has been divided into three clear sections: donations and loans from club members; grants; and fund raising events.
You may have read in your annual subscription bumf from Nina Chapell a request for all members to consider either becoming a life member for a one-off payment of £1,500 or to make a donation. Nina reports that over £150 has been given already. If you haven’t yet paid your sub, a small addition would be very welcome.
The committee is also pursuing grants through a number of appropriate organisations. These include Wiltshire Council Area Board, Landfill Grants, Community First, Malmesbury Corporation and many others. We have already received our first grant of £750, from the locally-based Jack Lane Trust; a small sum but a good start and much appreciated.
Finally, a number of fund raising events are being planned. This part of the campaign was given a major boost by the recent party in Charlton, so well organised by Nikki, which raised over £750.
Planned future events include a second Family Fun Day on Saturday, 3rd July and a horse racing evening on 20th November. In addition, Neil Bryars has ambitious plans for a 2011 calendar, with each of the 12 monthly pages sponsored by a local business. And Ron Hanlon is planning a very special Promises Auction and Dinner in April 2011. Chair David Hide said: “The fund raising campaign is up and running. We have a dedicated and hard working committee. All we need is the support of every club member and these new courts will soon become a reality A view from the path |
