This insures that players learn to play a simple game of tennis early on, which means more enjoyment and in turn success for the starter player. The LTA has a well-structured system that includes ratings and tournaments, so even at a young age children can compete if they would like to. Mini Tennis are divided up as follows: Red Balls: Red (Low compression ball that is slightly larger than the standard ball) Court: Maximum size 36ft long and 16 to 19ft wide Net: 31inches Recommended racket size: 16 to 19 inches Starter children (4 to 8yrs) and adult introduction Orange Balls: Orange (Low compression ball, same size as standard ball) Court: 60ft long 21 to 27ft wide. Net: Full size net lowered to 31inches at centre Recommended racket size: 21 to 23 inches Children (7 to 11yrs) and starter adults Green Balls: Green (Low compression, same size as standard ball) Court: Full size court Recommended racket size: 25 to 27inches Children (8 to 15yrs) and starter adults Yellow Balls: Standard balls Court: Full size court Recommended racket size: Full size racket (27inches) Children over the age of 11 and adults who have acquired a sound technical foundation Even though Mini Tennis refers to age 10 and under it is
often beneficial for starter players of all ages to begin with the low
compression balls. These balls are slow and low bouncing, making it easier to play tennis and therefore more fun to learn.
